You can earn extra fans based on HOW you win, not just WHAT you win with.

CONCEALED HAND (1 fan)

If you win without exposing any melds — meaning you never claimed

chow, pung, or kong from another player's discard — your hand

is 'concealed' and worth 1 extra fan.

SELF-DRAWN WIN (1 fan)

If you win by drawing the winning tile yourself (instead of

claiming another player's discard), that's worth 1 extra fan.

These two often go together:

• A concealed hand that self-draws = 2 extra fan

• A concealed hand won by discard = 1 extra fan (concealed only)

• An exposed hand that self-draws = 1 extra fan (self-drawn only)

Strategy tip: Keeping your hand concealed is risky (no claims!)

but the scoring bonus can be significant. A 0-fan hand becomes

a 2-fan hand just by being concealed + self-drawn!
